A name is hidden inside this book.

My mum did not understand the idea at first, but once she found her name on the first page she was into it. I would maybe include a clearer note with the gift next time. After that first page though, she completely got it and started checking every grid like it was a newspaper puzzle.

My girlfriend does word searches when she wants to switch off. This made the whole thing feel less random and more like something made for her. She noticed the cover first, then the hidden-name thing a minute later, which was a fun little two-stage reaction.
